Owen House Gallery
The gallery displays the work of owner Joyce Morrell.
Joyce Morrell came to Campobello Island, New Brunswick at the age of eleven when her parents moved from New Jersey.

Largely self-taught, she also received training at Middlebury College, Vt., the Museum School in Boston, The Art Center in Rochester, Minnesota and various other sources. She feels that the artists who have had the most influence on her work are Carl Schmalz, professor of art at Amherst College and Margaret Kranking, friend and painting companion, who is becoming nationally known as a watercolorist.

Although trained in commercial art and illustration, Joyce continued through those years to show her own work. She also taught art at the Univ. of Maine, Machias for thirteen years. From 1980 on she has concentrated on her own watercolors. She now runs Owen House, her family home on Campobello, as an Inn and paints full time.

The Owen House Gallery is the main source for people interested in Joyce's work She has shown in area galleries, and exhibited nationally in the Adirondack National Exhibition, and exhibited her work in galleries as far away as Santa Fe, New Mexico. In 1999 she was chosen, with 10 others, to participate in American Artist's watercolor contest at the Forbes ranch in Colorado. The resulting paintings were exhibited at Forbes' Galleries in New York City and San Francisco, and published in Watercolor's Spring issue, 2000. At the present time, however, she concentrates on her own summer gallery in Owen House, Campobello Island.
